We often hear this phrase time and time again. “Nice Guys Finish Last!!!!” It’s embedded in our brains as infants. It’s plastered all over the TV screen. You hardly ever hear stories about how a nice guy did something nice for someone. But I bet you hear about a “Bad Boy” all the time. Even in the movies and the television screen, you normally see some dude get ridiculed by all the girls because he is TOO NICE, and then all of a sudden he changes his persona and stops being nice. Then and only then, the girls start to notice him.
For example, let’s look at the famous show Family Matters. We all know the main characters, so I don’t need to mention that. But let’s take a look at the relationship between Laura and Steve Urkle. Now, let’s forget how annoying Steve was and look at the INNER PERSON. Steve was a nice genuine guy. But do you think Laura would have liked Steve even if he wasn’t annoying. NOOOOOO!!!!!! It wasn’t until Steve made his alter ego, Stefan, when Laura decided she wanted some of Steve. The first version of Stefan was uncaring and unassuming. He really didn’t care about Laura feelings, but she was so in love with him. Now of course some changes had to be made to the Stefan character, but I have to ask this. Steve and Stefan was the same person, but she wanted Stefan. Even though Steve treated Laura better than any man she ever was with, she preferred Stefan. Why??? I tell you why. Because the WORLD wants you to believe that NICE GUYS FINISH LAST!!!! I’ll take it a step further. When Steve finally got with Laura, the show was on the decline and eventually got canceled!!!! My point exactly!!!! LOL
But even with the world telling you that NICE GUYS FINISH LAST, I can tell you from personal experience that that statement is TOTALLY INACCURATE!!! Let’s take ME for example. I have prided myself on being a NICE GUY. If you ask anyone that I knows, they will tell you that I’m a nice guy. Well, since I’m a nice guy, let me tell you the PERKS that come with me being a nice guy. I have a family that loves and supports me in whatever I do. I graduated at the TOP of my CLASS. I was a WELL RESPECTED football player in high school. I was blessed to receive a FULL SCHOLARSHIP to Jackson State University. I serve as President of SIFE (Students In Free Enterprise) On top of that, I get an extra $5,000 every year in school that goes into my pocket. And on top of that, I’m getting another $5,000 added on to the first $5,000 for the upcoming year. So that’s $10,000 I’m getting paid just to go to school this year!!!! And you think I finish LAST…..LOL!!!!! (Not to brag or anything like that) And the bad thing about it is that people around me don’t understand why the LORD keeps blessing me or how I am able to get the things I get.
Some people still give me flack for being a nice person, while others just thinks it’s weird. For example, I went by the library on a Saturday night to access the internet. The internet was out in the dorms and I had just uploaded a Perk-A-Lator video to Facebook and I wanted to track the feedback. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNMnDMcWP1k Well, as I was checking my Facebook account, a female came up and sat beside me. We happen to strike up a conversation about the video. After that, the conversation changed. All of sudden she asked me and I quote, “Why aren’t you going out tonight (to the club)???” I politely told her that that was against my morals. She looked at me with a confused look on her face and proceeded to ask “Why???” I went on to explain to her, but in my mind I was thinking, “Trick I don’t need an explanation….LOL!!!” After I explained my situation, she still looked confused and said she didn’t understand. She was a SIMPLE MINDED GIRL, so I DIDN’T EXPECT her to understand.
But I said that to say this. Being a nice person is not a popular decision and requires you to live a life that’s DIFFERENT from everybody around you. But, even though it seems as if everyone is prospering around you, you normally have a better quality of life, physically, mentally, and spiritually. I would have never gotten all the things I have gotten in life without being a NICE GUY. So don’t think that NICE GUYS are begging for anything, because we are not!!!! So to all those girls who normally put guys down for being TOO NICE, those same guys are probably going to end up with someone BETTER THAN YOU and you are going to envy that girl. PLEASE BELIEVE THAT!!!! And to those guys who constantly down other guys for being NICE, those same guys are probably going to be signing your check or know the person who is signing your check!!!! If you don’t believe me, just keep living your life. LIFE BALANCES ITSELF OUT. THOSE WHO APPEAR TO BE AT THE BOTTOM WILL EVENTUALLY BE ON TOP!!!!!
